art evolves by constantly edging along the boundaries of what people are going to accept and sometimes stepping a little bit out of them and testing the water

and no before you get heated here no i am not talking about that stupid picture of fry

it’s a discussion we’re having right now and this is just a general post, we’re way past that dum meme gallery

but really that’s what the field of fine art is all about

experimenting, testing, trying to find little pockets of uncharted territory and throwing your work into them and trying to find the best package in which to contain and communicate your ideas

while edging along those boundaries

because as far as fine art goes

if you’re too safe and comfortable in those boundaries, your work is boring

if you step too far out of them, nobody understands what you’re trying to do

the most interesting, trailblazing artists are the ones who find those pockets of uncharted territory and embrace them and figure out how to really make them shine, how to make them mean something

and walking along the edge of anything is a lot less comfortable than sitting in the middle

but people throw around things like “the only good art is the art people don’t understand” or “if people hate your art, that means you’re doing it right” or “if you haven’t offended anybody yet, you’re not an artist!”

and honestly i think that’s a bunch of bullshit that people use to make themselves feel better when they find out that art is hard and not every idea you have is gonna be successful or popular or well-recieved

it’s hard to have new, radical ideas about ANYTHING and still be able to put them in a package that is simple and accessible to everyone

and that’s okay, art doesn’t have to do that in order to be good

but when it does

wow

jynxishh asked: once i cut my leg on a pillar while playing tag and then there was a lot of blood and it was everywhere and I was like "oh dang" and so I went to the nurse and you gotta keep in mind that this was a really giant cut like it ran from the top of my knee to like halfway down my calves and then the dumb lady just gave me a bandaid and told me to go to choir and she said i couldn't go home so I had to spend the entire class with blood dripping down my leg it was awful

Like, I could be looking in the exact same mirror as someone else six feet away, and it would be showing us two COMPLETELY different pictures. One object is able to show many things at the same time depending at how you look at it! That’s p fuckin cool just ask a scientist
